It was the summer of 1999, and a group of “Proper Modern Pagans” were carousing around a martini bar, deep in a remote desert. Someone had left a copy of Gorey’s classic, “The Gashlycrumb Tinies,” on the bartop, and they commenced reading it aloud. Delightful! So when returning to SF, how about a ball in his honor… Edward’s Ball… The Edwardian Ball! And thus it was so, with Rosin Coven presenting the first-ever Edwardian Ball at San Francisco’s legendary Cat Club that December.
So much has transpired since then! The Ball moved from the Cat Club to The Great American Music Hall, then to The Regency Ballroom in 2008. Throughout, Rosin Coven has hosted, performed their theatrical sets of music, and created & performed an original score to over 20 Edward Gorey tales since, 18 of which with their dear friends Vau de Vire Society.
Rosin Coven has been performing, recording, and touring, with mostly all original members, for over 25 years! And now, in 2023, they are ready to bring their project to a close. This will be their last time gracing the stage of The Edwardian Ball, and we hope you will be there to join them in joyous celebration. Yes, The Ball will continue, with Vau de Vire Society and many others carrying the torch, but it shall never be the same. Alchemy Through Music! Long Live The Pagan Lounge!
Listen to Rosin Coven online here, and do come join them for their grand finale, both Friday & Saturday February 3-4, at The Edwardian Ball.
